It is early here in Sao Paulo, Brasil, but I wanted to capture some quick reflections about the experience of GivingTuesday. Maybe it is because I am in a different country, but I felt the magic of what Giving Tuesday was intended to be when it launched two years ago. Yesterday, Giving Tuesday showed the abundance and generativeness that working in networks, movements, and community or whatever you want to call them can produce. GivingTuesday has come and gone. To build on your GivingTuesday momentum, you need to plan your thoughtful follow-ups in advance. You absolutely cannot overlook the importance of expressing gratitude to your donors. Take this opportunity to remind supporters of what their donation makes possible. You can also use your thank you email as a chance to give something back. Strong Women Strong Girls does a great job of this by inviting donors to celebrate a successful year during their Holiday Open House. Sharing a thank you video is a really engaging way to show your appreciation. Encourage supporters to share a link to your donation page from their social media channels or remind them to refer your organization directly to a friend or family member who might be able to help out.
