Experts are warning home computer users about the importance of properly securing PCs, following news that a man allegedly used computer malware to prey upon young women has been charged in Canada. According to media reports, year-old Daniel Lesiewicz has been charged with using spyware to take over the Webcams of women as young as 14 and coerced them into posing naked for him. Lesiewicz, the owner of a computer support company, has appeared in a Montreal courtroom on charges of possessing and producing child pornography, extortion and threats. The victims are then said to have been contacted by another internet user called "Dave," who told the women that nude photos of them would be posted on the net unless they posed again in front of their Webcams.

James Duane Vanraden, 46, faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted in Cass County District Court of patronizing a minor for commercial sexual activity, a Class A felony. He also was charged with promoting sexual performance by a minor and luring minors by a computer, both of which are Class B felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison. A criminal complaint filed Friday, July 17, details a monthslong investigation that began in December with a Craigslist ad posted online by a West Fargo Police detective. The ad was looking for a tutor to teach a year-old girl, court documents said. Vanraden asked what kind of tutor the ad creator was looking for, the complaint said. The defendant wrote he liked bestiality and underage children, wanted to have sex with the child and asked how much it would cost, court documents alleged. He also sent money to another person to have sex with another child, according to the complaint. As Vanraden tried to set up a meeting to buy the child for the night, he also said he had been spying on another child, according to court documents. He admitted to taking multiple nude pictures of the child through a hole in the door, as well as a short video of the girl urinating, court documents alleged. He was booked into Cass County Jail the same day.
